Celebrities who gave their voice to beloved animated characters
We can all name our favorite animated films or television shows, and the vast majority of us can probably name the all-time greats. Some of the most iconic animations in history include The Lion King, Tarzan, Toy Story, and Shrek, as well as Futurama and Family Guy. While we’re all familiar with these award-winning films and television shows, are we all familiar with the people behind the voices? Aside from being on-screen in some of our favorite shows and films, the biggest celebrities in Hollywood (including Brad Pitt, Robin Williams, Meryl Strip and Cameron Diaz) voiced some of the world’s most beloved animated characters. Keep reading to learn who they are and who they gave their voices to.
Demi Moore – The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Esmerelda is a young Parisian gypsy and one of the main characters in the successful animated movie, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Demi Moore was chosen to voice the animated character after she received tremendous acclaim for her performance in Ghost.
Having such an actress on board for the project helped the animation win an Academy Award and a Golden Globe nomination, which shows that the choice was perfect. Demi has been in two high-profile relationships in addition to getting cast for high-profile movies, such as Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. She was married to Bruce Willis and Ashton Kutcher, both actors.
Glenn Close – Tarzan
Glenn Close may have made a lot of kids hide under the covers after seeing her in 101 Dalmatians, but she’s just another sweet actor who is simply too talented at what she does. She was in lots of successful movies, such as Fatal Attraction and Mars Attacks.
While her face was not visible on Tarzan, she did provide her voice to the character of Karla. Karla is the hero of the story this time, as she saves Tarzan from being abandoned in his basket. Cruella de Vil appears to have had a change of heart at some point of her life.
Ellen DeGeneres – Finding Nemo
If you’re a big Ellen DeGeneres fan and watch her daytime talk show, you’re definitely aware that she voiced Dory in Finding Nemo. After all, her character is the focus of the sequel, Finding Dory.
Dory, who adds humorous value to the pleasant film, is a terrific match for Ellen. Ellen is one of the most well-known talk show hosts in the world, thanks to her sense of humour and kindness to both her star guests and her followers. She was so good at this job that we hope to hear her voice again in other animated movies.
John Travolta – Bolt
John Travolta is well-known for his musical abilities on screen, having appeared in films such as Saturday Night Live, Grease and Hairspray, among others. He also starred in the Quentin Tarantino movie, Pulp Fiction, but his talents go beyond dancing and acting.
While Travolta is known for his dance abilities, in 2008 he voiced the main character in Bolt, where he portrayed Bolt, a canine celebrity. This was really different from what he usually does as an actor, but he obviously did a great job as the movie received an Academy Award nomination and two Golden Globe nominations.
