TMS, or The Masked Singer, is an American reality singing competition television series that debuted on Fox on January 2, 2019. It is part of the Masked Singer franchise, which started in South Korea and features celebrities singing songs while concealing their identities behind head-to-toe costumes and face masks. The show, hosted by Nick Cannon, features panelists who try to guess the celebrities’ identities by interpreting clues given to them during the season. The least popular person is eliminated, and their identity is revealed. As a result of its success, two spin-offs have followed: an aftershow and a dance version called The Masked Dancer. The sitcom was renewed for a sixth season by Fox, which was broadcast in September 2021.
Vivica A. Fox as Mother Nature
The Masked Singer revealed Vivica A. Fox as Mother Nature in the shocking premiere’s double elimination. Nicole Scherzinger, Jenny McCarthy, Robin Thicke and Ken Jeong were completely stumped by the big unmasking and all four judges guessed the wrong star. Fox performed “I’m Every Woman” by iconic singer Diana Ross.
Fox told host Nick Cannon during her unmasked interview. “I challenged myself. You know I’ve done so many things in my career. I’ve never done anything like this before and I had fun! I want to say to the panel, you guys are all amazing. Keep making dreams come true!”
Toni Braxton as the Pufferfish
Pufferfish was revealed to be R&B legend Toni Braxton. The panel of judges’ final guesses were very diverse. However, the R&B legend was eliminated way too soon, only getting to sing “Say So” by Doja Cat and “Levitating” by Dua Lipa.
In addition to disguising her unmistakable tone, Braxton had to wear a face mask underneath her Pufferfish costume due to having lupus and needing to take extra precaution against Covid-19. Unfortunately, it muffled her voice and did not allow her to project as much as she had hoped. Nevertheless, the songstress gave an amazing and passionate performance.
Tyga as the Dalmatian
Host Nick Cannon claimed he knew it was Tyga underneath the Dalmatian costume all along, but everyone else was stunned. Judge Ken Jeong named Reggie Bush as his pick. Actress Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg guessed comedian Kevin Hart. Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke at least guessed a rapper but thought it was Nelly.
As for why he decided to join the show, Tyga says he was inspired by watching fellow rapper Lil Wayne perform as Robot back in Season 3. The “Rack City” rapper was only able to perform one song before ultimately getting eliminated: “Beautiful” by Snoop Dogg featuring Pharrell.
Larry the Cable Guy as the Baby
Wild Card contestants were introduced in season 5 of The Masked Singer. The Wild Card singers take the place of a third group of competitors this year. Basically, this secretive group of vocalists will be going up against the remaining members of Groups A and B.
This time around, The Masked Singer’s Group A hit the stage once again with four returning competitors and one new Wild Card. Comedian Larry The Cable Guy performed two songs. First up, he sang “You’re the First, the Last, My Everything” by Barry White and “Meet the Flintstones” by Hoyt Curtin. However, he was eliminated.
