Green Light for ‘Squid Game’ Season 2

Squid Game’s new season release is finally approved by Netflix. This last month the platform made a commitment announcing the upcoming episodes on Twitter and showing us a ten second video clip with the animation of the infant’s face from the first Squid Game of Season 1 followed by the slogan,

“Red light… GREENLIGHT! Squid Game is officially coming back for Season 2!”. Unfortunately, we will have to wait for more specific details about the next sequel.

Hwang Dong-hyuk, the series’ creator, writer, and director, said:
“A whole new round is coming. It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever. As the writer, director and producer of Squid Game, a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show.”

“And now, Gi-hun returns,” he added. “The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming. The man in the suit with ddakji might be back. You’ll also be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend, Cheol-su. Join us once more for a whole new round.”

Ted Sarandos, a Netflix CEO, told investors in January 2022 that a sequel was practically a given by saying “Absolutely… the Squid Game universe has just begun” and later in April, Hwang said to Variety that he was working hard on another project and that he thinks Squid Game season 2 would probably be out in 2024.

Netflix has not yet announced the show’s launch date, but at least we have a confirmation that the second season is happening. Netflix is currently offering the first season of Squid Game.
